Reviews
“Overall, the MSI Wind U100 is an impressive entry-level laptop. We never once felt as though compromises had been made. IT won’t suit anyone looking for a powerhouse portable but if your needs are basic, writing emails and using the internet, or a word processor for the commute, this is as good as it currently gets.” (TechRadar, 2009)
“The MSI Wind U100 is one of the best subnotebooks I have seen come out of the mini notebook storm that has hit us the past few months. It offers a 10″ widescreen, 2.5-inch SATA hard drive, Intel Atom processor, and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth for well under what some of the other mainstream competition charge. All of this seems to come with a small caveat right now: horrible battery life. MSI is only selling the 3-cell version of the Wind, which averages just a hair over 2 hours of mobile use. This is unacceptable for a travel companion device. Good news is sometime in the future: a configuration will be sold with an extended battery, and early adopters should wait for it. For the $500 price you really can’t ask for much more. The screen is great, the keyboard is great, build quality is top notch, and above all the thing doesn’t light your pants on fire… at least not due to heat.” (BrightHand, 2008)
“So how does the MSI Wind stack up? As you can tell, I liked the machine a lot. As a portable computer it succeeds totally. Whilst the individual components differ little from much of the opposition, the end result is somehow “more” and incredibly effective. It’s small without being too small. It’s light but feels well-built, it’s roomy but highly portable, it’s reasonably powerful and noticeably quick. It’s a proper small computer that feels like it has been designed to be an effective proper small computer without being toy-like. EeePC devotees might complain that the price is perhaps getting on for being on the high side of the market at £349 (it can be found cheaper), but it’s a price worth paying and one that I am happy to dig into my pocket for considering the quality of the overall package. Of course, full-size laptops can be had for this amount of money, but that ignores the merits of this machine. It’s by far the best of the breed to date and puts everything else in the shade.” (TracyAndMatt, 2008)
