Garmin Oregon 300

The Garmin Oregon 300 is an outdoor handheld GPS navigator designed with a 3.0-inch colour TFT touch screen, 240-by-400-pixels high resolution, along with a built-in basemap with shaded relief, barometric altimeter, electronic compass, and picture viewer. This GPS gadget is fitted with high-sensitivity 12 channels GPS receiver that features WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) enabled technology for fast satellite lock, 2D maps and 2D views, 3D maps and 3D views, plus millions Points of Interests (POIs) with 1000 way points (favourites or locations). It features built-in Memory 850 MB, photo viewer, automatic routing, and compatible with Garmin GB Discoverer mapping. Besides that, it also support PC connectivity with its USB mass storage device, support Bluetooth connectivity, microSD card slot for additional storage, and it also allows wireless sharing User Tracks, Waypoints, Routes and Geocaches between Oregon units and Garmin Colorado models. The device is available in either Grey or Silver Grey colour enclosure, along with IPX-7 rubber casing which is waterproof and able to withstand any kind of outdoor activity.

Features
The Garmin Oregon 300 offers a high-resolution, colour 3.0-inch touch screen that enables user to tap or drag through its user interface menus and options, plus the screen is also easy to read even in direct sunlight. In addition, its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix satellite prediction allows user to quickly locate a particular location and precisely maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The receiver has positioning accuracy of between 3m to 15m, depending on the availability of the satellite signal strenght indicator. Once the indication point is pressed, user will be able to receive detailed information and a map with active satellite positions and its precision at the exact time. Its Geocaching feature also helps user to download online information such as location, terrain, difficulty, hints and description. The device is also equipped with a barometric altimeter, electronic compass, plus it is also compatible with Garmin’s heart-rate monitors and speed/cadence sensors. It comes with a built-in electronic compass that provides users with bearing information whether you are on the move or in a standing position, while its barometric altimeter can track changes in pressure and informed the correct altitude of the location. It can also be use for tracking the change of weather conditions. The Oregon 300 features a Tracking function that works like “breadcrumbs” where it logs in information during a trip (up to 10,000 points of tracks and 20 saved tracks) where user will be able to select the current or saved track for tracing back previous steps or locations through the device. It also allow users to search for specific destination according to State, Suburb, Street or, Point of Interest (POI), plus it allows customize POIs to be added to the GPS, such as school zones and safety cameras enabling you to set proximity alerts of the specified upcoming POIs.
The GPS navigator’s main menu contains 24 buttons with various function and usage. The buttons positions in the main menu depends on the usage whether you are using the GPS navigator in a vehicle, on a boat or on foot. Main map can be displayed in either 2D or 3D mode, and in case 2D map is chosen, the system will display an additional two panels with information. It can be used for displaying 2 out of 44 useful informations such as, info about the amount of travelled kilometers (meters), the vehicle maximal or average speed, GPS precision, actual coordinates, altitude, info about next turn, water temperature, distance and time needed to get to destination. Other features include pre-loaded MapSource City Navigator NT maps, built-in 3D DEM (Digital Elevation Model) layer basemap which displays a basic topographical information in the form of shaded relief that helps navigation through hills or mountains, and it is compatible with an optional Garmin MapSource card which provides detailed street maps, plus turn-by-turn directions to specific destination. In addition, an it also support BlueChart g2 Vision maps (optional) especially used during a journey on water that provides information such as depth contours, navaids and harbours. The GPS is compatible with GPS software like MapSource US TOPO , MapSource WorldMap , MapSource MetroGuide , MapSource US TOPO 24K , MapSource City Navigator , MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager. Besides that, it also has JPEG picture viewer, built-in antenna, high quality stopwatch, Hunt/fish calendar, calculator, alarm, Whereigo and Geocache games, and also provides advices for hunters and fishermen regarding information such as at what time they should go for hunting or fishing. The Garmin Oregon 300 has a dimension of 58mm in width, 35mm in depth, 114mm in height, weighs in at 192.7 grams, and it is powered by two high-capacity or lithium-ion AA batteries that has an average battery life up to 16 hours of usage.
